The 2019 Tour de Cure Signature Tour will arrive in Geelong this afternoon, Saturday, 11 May after covering 1400km and 16,238m of elevation over the last nine days. The Team of over 200 riders and support team left Sydney's Martin Place on Friday, 3 May and is expected to arrive in Geelong at Steampacket Gardens at 3:00 p.m.

Well-known names on this year’s Signature Tour are AFL Hall of Famer Tony “Plugger” Lockett, Channel 7’s Sunrise host Mark Beretta, Channel 7 weatherman James Tobin, reporter and SBS World News presenter Darren Mara as well as cancer survivor and public speaker Jake Bailey who have been riding on the challenging route over 1400km through cities and regional communities in New South Wales, the ACT and Victoria.

In recognition of Mark Beretta’s ongoing dedication to Tour de Cure, the final destination of this year’s Signature Tour is Geelong, Beretta’s hometown. Beretta is one of seven Tour de Cure Board Members and is part of Tour de Cure’s Signature Tour for the tenth consecutive year.

Tour de Cure Australia reached two major milestones this week hitting the $50 million-dollar mark in its 12-years of fundraising for cancer research, prevention and support. On Thursday, Tour de Cure also reached the $10 million-dollar mark in fundraising for the year 2019.

“We had some massive news this week. I’m so excited and it’s amazing what a small group of people can achieve when they put their shoulder to the wheel. Since its inception 13 years ago, Tour de Cure has now raised $50 million and $10 million in 2019 alone for cancer research, prevention and support. These are unthinkable milestones that have only been possible thanks to the generosity of tens of thousands of Australians and all our riders, our team, our support crew, their families and their friends who have sponsored them over the years,” Mark Beretta said.

“We will have lots of reasons to celebrate when we arrive in Geelong today and I hope we get a big crowd. Thank you so much for everyone’s support, but we are not done. We have a long way to go with research, so please keep supporting the riders. Families, friends, sponsors, get behind this event and Tour de Cure and let’s make a really big difference. Let’s be the nation that finds the cures for cancer. How great would that be.”

Tour de Cure is passionate about helping people who are touched by cancer, particularly individuals and families in regional communities where care and support for cancer patients is limited. On each overnight stop on the 2019 Signature Tour, Tour de Cure donated $10,000 to local cancer projects, illustrating the impact that this has on people affected by cancer in regional communities.

The nine communities along the way of Sydney, Kiama, Goulburn, Canberra, Jindabyne, Corryong, Beechworth, Shepparton and Daylesford were presented with a $10,000 donation each for their selected local cancer projects.

Raising awareness that 1 in 3 cancers are preventable also is a key focus for Tour de Cure and the Signature Tour team has been visiting local primary schools along the way to educate more than 3,000 children through Tour de Cure’s Be Fit, Be Healthy, Be Happy program, that by making simple, healthy lifestyle choices, they can reduce their cancer risk.

The public is invited to come down to Steampacket Gardens in Geelong this afternoon, 11 May, at 3pm to celebrate the Tour de Cure Signature 2019 arrival.

3:00 pm TEAM FINALE ARRIVAL:
