When the pelotons set out on Friday morning, every single rider had a hope in their heart: That the efforts they made to raise over $2.3 million so far, will help find the cancer breakthrough that will mean an end to this dreadful disease. Every one of them has a story, a loved one or a mate, that they are doing this for, and it’s that common thread that brings this tour together in North Queensland.
So far, the team have tackled 443km of this trek. Over the past 4 days, they’ve presented cheques for over $95,000 to local Cancer Research and Support projects such as the Leukemia Foundation’s Mackay Support Group for people who are living with Blood Cancer, and the Camp Quality Family Fun Day.
The riders bring amazing energy to this tour. Every day on tour, they visit local schools to deliver the Be Fit Be Healthy Be Happy Program to children. Given in three cancer cases are preventable, this program teaches kids how to be proactive about their health and fitness. So far, the riders have already reached over 4000 kids and their teachers, delivering this message to much excitement and enthusiasm.
