Every 12 hours a patient in Australia dies of Mesothelioma. This incurable tumour affects the surface of the lung and is caused by inhalation of asbestos. Curcumin, a component of the spice turmeric, can inhibit growth of this tumour. Curcumin has been used in many clinical trials and does not have the debilitating side effects of chemotherapy. Flinders Medical Researchers will test if applying Curcumin directly to the lung surface is safe and effective at controlling this cancer.
